Hindsight is 20/20 and if she had listened to us in her 1L year she would have undoubtedly gotten all A’s in law school! Just about everyone who goes to law school is capable of getting all A’s.
It’s easy for 1L law students to get A’s in law school if you know what to do and who to listen to. Go to our Free Samples section and read about all the free advice we give to law students related to exam writing. We can help open your eyes and prove to you we are the only experts who are able to show you what to do.
Law school exam writing is a skill. You cannot learn a skill 2-3 weeks before an exam. As a 1L you must start memorizing, applying and dissertating the law immediately when law school starts. IRAC can be your best friend or worst enemy. As we like to say a little bit of knowledge is a dangerous thing. Most 1L law students have small bits of the full knowledge they need to excel on their law school exam writing. That is a dangerous thing.
Our exam writing products are integrated and will give you a complete solution to all you need to do extraordinarily well on your law school exams. We have it all; law outlines, flashcards, case briefs, and the most advanced law dictionary so you can easily learn both majority and minority law as well as all the difficult to learn and understand idiomatic law.
We can waive our magic wand and give you all the information you need but you cannot get good at a skill unless you practice. Law school exam writing is a skill you must learn.
We are the only people who know how to teach you that skill.
All our exam writing products are available in digital and printed formats. We have Exam Writing books and we also have Issue Spotting books. The Issue Spotting books are made to show you have to dramatically increase your ability to read fact patterns. We show you a simple method to make sure you address all the facts in a fact pattern. We call this R&R™ Issue Spotting. We also show you how multiple issues emanate from a single fact pattern. We also have our MP3 Exam Writing lecture to teach you the entire skill of exam writing. You can listen to it once every two weeks for at least 8 times. It is based on torts, contracts, and crimes but everything you learn can be quickly applied to any subject.
You must read this next section before you buy.
The use of the model answers in the products is to see how an exam answer looks and nothing more. There are two important components of any exam answer; its substance and its visual appeal.
The practice exams in each product are extremely valuable as a group. This is because they contain the same issues at least 5 times in different formats. If you have in fact memorized the law, you will easily spot all the issues and from the model answers we provide you will be able to see how an answer is constructed. Those are the two main issues for writing exams.
We do not provide model answers for every exam in the products.
Having the answers to every single exam is of no value if you have not memorized the law; you cannot learn the law from doing exam writing problems. To learn the law you need to read the cases, do short form Q&A, memorize the law from your outline, and self grade your answers by reading Dean’s Law Dictionary. Giving answers to someone who has not memorized the law is of no use. In fact, there is just about nothing you can learn from an exam answer other than the format and structure of how the answer is actually written.
For someone who has memorized the law, the answers are not of any use; they will spot all the issues and write about them because they know the law. It is good to look at some answers to see how race-horse questions are written or how and what to underline and how to use the memorized law to create the base exam answer. Otherwise they have no utility in your asking the proper questions and then answering them.
That being said, all the answers for every single exam ever written or to be written are in Dean’s Law Dictionary. Once you finish an answer, go into Dean’s and read all there is on the same topical areas of your essay and you will quickly see the areas that need improvement.
The key is memorization of the law so you can ask the questions and answer them. Since 90% of the law is really easy yes-no answers, the mere fact you memorize and ask the question you will know the answer immediately. For those areas of the law that are idiomatic or just give you trouble, we have the same issues shown 5 times or more in the entire bank of practice exams plus in the model answers we always do the idiomatic law to show how those answers are structured.
Students who want all the answers simply have not memorized the law.
In reading Dean’s Law Dictionary on the same issues right after you do a practice exam, you will quickly spot what you should have done on your answer vs. what you did. This self teaching method is the most effective way to learn all the ins and outs of idiomatic law.
The bank of questions repeats all the major issues in the subject area at least 5 times if not more. If you do not have the law memorized, you will have a terrible time with the answers because you will not be able to spot all the issues. If you have memorized the law, by the time you are done with the bank you will have absolute confidence in your abilities to spot and write about any issues or any random set of facts that are presented. At that point in time, you are ready to practice law.
If you are not word sensitive or fact sensitive and are a sloppy reader or have not memorized the law properly or with enough detail, we would hope that by the 5th time with you seeing the same types of facts repeated, you would realize you are need to work harder to refine your legal abilities.
This method has been highly successful. With it, we produce 1,000’s of students who get multiple A’s in all the law schools in the U.S. Thinking like a lawyer is really about your learning the law and learning how to be self taught in learning the law.
We have developed these special exercises to assist you in transitioning to a fully self-taught capability.
